Sony is bolstering its true wireless earbud lineup with a new middle-of-the-road entry, the $200 Sony WF-SP800N. These earbuds have all the features that people into fitness will appreciate including IP55 water and sweat resistance.
Currently, the company has the extremely popular $230 Sony WF-1000XM3 true wireless earbuds at the top end of the spectrum and the $130 Sony XB700 earbuds at the bottom end. These new earbuds should bridge that gap nicely.
Like the WF-1000XM3, the new Sony WF-SP800N has active noise-cancellation to keep all the sound from the outside out while working out or doing just about anything else (the cheaper XB700 earbuds don’t have noise-cancellation).
The Sony WF-SP800N promises solid battery life for a set of true wireless earbuds. They have nine hours of life with noise-cancellation enabled. The lifespan is doubled with the case, which doubles as a charger. If noise cancelation is turned off, the battery life is bumped up to 13 hours plus another 13 with the case.
Like a lot of high-end headphones, these feature touch controls for performing a wide range of actions while listening to music and podcasts. For example, users can hold their finger on the earbuds to quickly turn down the volume and pipe in sound from the outside, making it easy to talk to someone without removing the buds.
Sony’s WF-SP800N earbuds feature the company’s Extra Bass sound profile, which is always nice to see from a pair of smaller headphones. They also have the same Bluetooth chip as the more expensive WF-1000XM3, so they should have a strong, reliable Bluetooth connection to whatever device they’re connected to.
There are also plenty of customization features available on the new Sony WF-SP800N such as the ability to set up profiles for different places. Users could set up an EQ for their home and another for work and quickly switch between the two. It even has location-based profiles so users can have the headphones work one way while at the gym and another while walking down the street.
The Sony WF-SP800N earbuds are available for purchase now from Sony for $200 from various retailers, including Amazon. Check them out at the link above.
