  • The second-generation Verizon Stream TV streaming media box is now available for $69.99.
  • The Android TV-based device supports 4K streaming, HDR, and includes Wi-Fi 6 hardware and a voice remote.
  • Verizon Fios and 5G Home may get the Stream TV box for free with installation.

Did you know Verizon has sold an Android TV streaming box for a while now? The wireless carrier has not exactly promoted its Verizon Stream TV device extensively. However, today it is launching its second-generation version of the device to the public.

In Verizon’s press release, it says the new box has a slim body that can be placed either next to your big screen TV or placed on a wall. In fact, it comes with its own wall mount bracket. The box supports video streaming at up to 4K resolution as well as HDR10 and HDR 10+ TVs. It also has Wi-Fi 6 hardware and dual-band 2.4 GHz/5GHz connectivity.

Since the box is based on Android TV, owners can get all of the streaming media apps that are supported by the OS. The carrier has also put in its own custom UI that brings up content from those services, including Netflix, Disney Plus, and more on one screen. The box comes with a remote with support for Google Assistant voice search and controls. There’s even a remote finder for when it falls under your sofa. While Verizon does not have it own internet-based TV service like T-Mobile’s recently launched TVision, it does allow Verizon customers to sign up for the similar YouTube TV and add the cost to their monthly Verizon bill.

If you sign up for Verizon’s Fios or 5G Home internet services, you could get a Stream TV at no additional cost. For everyone else, it costs $69.99 right now. People who own the first-generation box will soon receive an update with the new Verizon UI.
