- An Instagram Story posted by the official “Made By Google” account contains an unreleased Google Pixel 4a.
- The phone in the Story is white (or possibly Google’s “Sand” colorway), but the 4a only launched in Just Black.
- It’s possible Google planned to launch multiple colorways for the device but scaled back when the pandemic caused issues.
The official “Made By Google” Instagram account recently posted a new Story. The Story centers on International Dance Day, which was yesterday. In the video, a woman dances around her house, which is filled with Google hardware.
The music she’s dancing to comes from a Nest Audio in the Chalk colorway. At one point, there’s a matching phone placed next to the speaker. The phone in question is undoubtedly the Google Pixel 4a — but that phone only launched in Just Black.

Now, if you’ll remember, the Google Pixel 4a was supposed to launch in May last year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Google delayed the release. The phone eventually dropped in August in just one color.
It’s very possible that Google planned for a second color option for the Pixel 4a, and that second option might be what we see in this Instagram Story. This would make sense, as every other Pixel phone has had at least two color options.
It’s unfortunate that we’ll likely never see this Google Pixel 4a hit store shelves, as it looks pretty classy. However, the upcoming Pixel 5a might bring back multiple color options, now that the pandemic is starting to wind down in certain areas of the world.
Thank you to Blake for the tip!
