  • Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360, its first Windows laptops with AMOLED screens.
  • Both are thinner and lighter, with 11th-gen Intel Core CPUs and tighter integration with Samsung mobile devices.
  • They’re available to pre-order now, starting at $999.99/£1,099 for the Pro and $1,199.99/£1,199 for the Pro 360.

How does Samsung build on its mobile-influenced laptops from last year? By making them even more like the Galaxy phone in your pocket, apparently. The company has introduced Galaxy Book Pro and convertible Galaxy Book Pro 360 portables that borrow further mobile design cues and integrate more closely with Samsung’s ecosystem.

The Galaxy Book Pro line is Samsung’s first Windows PC range with AMOLED screens — no QLED like in earlier systems or the Galaxy Chromebook 2. The 13- and 15-inch displays available in each laptop range are limited to a 1080p resolution. Still, you’ll get the effectively infinite contrast ratio and punchier colors that you’ve likely seen on your Samsung phone. An Intelligent Color Engine can switch between vivid and accurate picture profiles depending on the task, so you shouldn’t have to tweak settings just to edit your latest photos.

Both Galaxy Book Pro machines also boast more phone-like portability. The 13-inch Galaxy Book Pro weighs just over 1.9lbs and measures just 0.44in thick — you won’t mistake it for a handset, but it won’t feel like a burden in your bag. The Pro 360 is unsurprisingly heavier given the tablet functionality at nearly 2.3lbs, but it’s just as thin.

Yes, there’s expanded support for the rest of your Samsung-branded hardware. Easy Bluetooth Connection promises AirPods-like easy pairing for your Galaxy Buds. The Galaxy Book Pro range is also Samsung’s first PC lineup to integrate the SmartThings app for home automation and tracking down your lost devices with Find tags. You can also expect a macOS Sidecar-style option to use your Galaxy tablet as a second screen.

Whichever laptop you choose should be reasonably speedy. All Galaxy Book Pro laptops use 11th Gen Core processors and meet Intel’s elevated Evo specs with Iris Xe integrated graphics, a Thunderbolt 4 port (plus two USB-C ports and microSD), and Wi-Fi 6. There are some design refinements, including a more comfortable keyboard, a 23% larger trackpad, and a 2.5-times thicker S Pen that should be more pleasant for sketches and notes. Just don’t expect stunning Zoom calls — all models are stuck with 720p webcams.

Samsung hasn’t provided battery life claims for the Galaxy Book Pro series, although the Evo program dictates at least nine hours of runtime. Whenever you need to top up, 65W fast charging support over USB-C should get you back into action relatively quickly.

The systems are available to pre-order today and will ship on May 14. Prices for the regular Galaxy Book Pro start at $999.99/£1,099 for a 13-inch variant and $1,099.99/£1,199 for its 15-inch counterpart. The touch input of the Pro 360 hikes the price to $1,199.99/£1,199 for a 13-inch PC and $1,299.99/£1,249 for its 15-inch edition. These are premium laptops, then, but they may justify themselves if you either crave the portability or thrive in Samsung’s universe.
