Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 updates
- Current stable version: Android 11
- When will it get Android 11: Q1 2022 (estimated)
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 was released to market on September 18, packing One UI 2.5 atop Android 10 out of the box. It will get three generations of Android version updates, so that means we’re expecting Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13.
One of the first major updates for the foldable rolled out in late October (h/t: SamMobile), packing version number F916BXXU1BTJB. This update reportedly included the October 2020 security patch, which was said to fix up to 21 vulnerabilities. One of these vulnerabilities affected access to the Secure Folder.
Samsung followed up with a new update (version F916BXXU1BTJB) just a few days later, bringing the November security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
On December 3, 2020, XDA-Developers reported that the foldable received another stable update. This update (version F916BXXS1BTK1) delivered the December 2020 security patch.
Samsung also started the One UI 3.0 public beta program in late November, allowing users to get an early hands-on with Android 11 on the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
On January 11, the company finally started to push out a stable version of the One UI 3.0 update to the Galaxy Z Fold 2. According to SamMobile, the Android 11-based update (version F916BXXU1CTLL) started rolling out to users in Germany and included the January 2021 security patch.
Verizon rolled out stable Android 11 to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 on January 20. It arrived with the December 2020 security patch rather than the January 2021 patch, however.
Samsung pushed out the March 2021 security patch to the foldable from March 15. Per SamMobile, the update (firmware version F9160ZCS1DUC1) first rolled out in China with several fixes.
