In a lot of ways, Stranger Things is the show that cemented not only Netflix’s streaming catalog but also streaming services in general. It’s fitting that this week’s collection of trailers is headlined by the first trailer for that sci-fi drama’s fourth season, which would appear to center on the other children who joined Eleven in the research lab. Continue on for more!
The best new movie trailers and TV show teasers for upcoming streaming titles
Stranger Things season 4
Netflix launched the first trailer for its flagship series’ fourth season yesterday. The trailer is more of a teaser, as it focuses solely on a collection of other “gifted” children who lived in the research lab with Millie Bobby Brown’s character, Eleven. Other than a close-up shot of Eleven’s eyes, no other main cast members appear. Start your theories!
Arcane
League of Legends fans should be pumped as Netflix is producing an animated television series based in that game’s universe. Set in the past, the show will depict origin stories for some of the game’s most popular characters. Unfortunately, there’s no solid release date yet, but the trailer gives you an idea of what’s in store for the show later this year.
Awake
This feature-length film will likely be quite relevant to many of our readers. In Awake, Jill (Gina Rodriguez), an ex-soldier with a troubled past, sees the world around her crumble when a mysterious global event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep. The key to solving this new crisis might be Jill’s young daughter. Expect suspense, action, and plenty of allegory with this one!
Lucifer season 5, part 2
Netflix chose to split the surprise fifth season of Lucifer into two parts. Speculation abounded that this would be the last season for the previously canceled series, but don’t worry: Netflix renewed the show for a sixth season that will end up being its last. Check out the trailer for the next set of episodes, which will debut on the streaming platform at the end of this month.
The Last Letter From Your Lover
Romance fans should get excited for this feature-length film, based on the hit book of the same name by Jojo Moyes. The film centers on the forbidden love affair between a 1960s couple (Shailene Woodley and Callum Turner) as details of the romance are uncovered by an ambitious present-day journalist (Felicity Jones) after she finds a trove of secret love letters.
Pause
HBO Max tapped Saturday Night Live writer Sam Jay and Insecure’s Prentice Penny for this new take on the late-night talk show format. Rather than stage out conversations on sets, Pause presents more realistic conversations in a party-like atmosphere. Expect the discussions to tackle some pretty heavy themes, such as racism, LGBTQ issues, and gender identity. The show premieres on May 21.
In Treatment season 4
After a very successful and critically acclaimed three-season run, In Treatment came to a close way back in 2010. However, HBO is now continuing the series over a decade later with a new star in Uzo Aduba. Aduba will step in to play a role in the series similar to Gabriel Byrne’s original turn as therapist Paul Weston. Since this is the fourth season, though, it is not a reboot, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Byrne or other former cast members were to make some appearances.
Plan B
This teenage comedy-drama is a new Hulu original film. It centers on a straight-laced high school student who has a regrettable first sexual encounter. Afterward, she and her slacker best friend have 24 hours to hunt down a Plan B pill in America’s heartland. The film premieres on May 28.
Dom
This film is a biopic about one of Rio de Janeiro’s most famous drug lords, Pedro Dom. The film starts with a teenage Pedro who lives a middle-class life in Rio. He’s introduced to cocaine and sets down the path to becoming the leader of a criminal gang that dominated the tabloids in the early 2000s.
