We are now into the second stage of the Android 12 rollout. However, don’t get too excited: we are still a ways away from the operating system being stable enough for consumers to adopt.

Right now, we have seen the second beta launch. Before then, we saw three developer previews (with two minor updates in between) and a debut beta. Going forward, we can expect at least two more beta releases. The Android 12 release date should be easy enough to ascertain around the launch of the third or fourth beta.
For the record, last year for the Android 11 launch, Google had the first beta out in June and the final launch in early September. It is highly likely we’ll see a very similar (or even earlier) schedule this year.

Android 12 release date: The timeline so far
Google plans to launch monthly updates for Android 12. According to the most recent official information, we can expect the third beta in July. Beta versions of the software are good enough for consumer use (although still not something you’d want to use as a daily driver).
After three or four beta launches, the Android 12 release date will be easy to narrow down. Depending on how development goes, it could be in the middle or end of August. It could also be early September. However, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on pretty much every industry, so it’s important to temper your expectations.

- March 3, 2021: Android 12 Developer Preview 1.1
- March 17, 2021: Android 12 Developer Preview 2
- April 7, 2021: Android 12 Developer Preview 2.2
- April 21, 2021: Android 12 Developer Preview 3
- May 18, 2021: Android 12 Beta 1
- June 9, 2021: Android 12 Beta 2
