  • Samsung has announced an MWC virtual event for June 28.
  • The firm says it’ll be “unveiling its vision for the future of smartwatches.”

Google announced a new version of Wear OS at its I/O virtual event earlier this year, and the big news is that the search giant is working with Samsung to develop the platform. Now, Samsung has announced that it will be holding a virtual MWC event next week, and you can officially expect smartwatch-related news here.

Samsung revealed that it will be holding a virtual MWC event on June 28 at 7:15 PM CET (1:15 PM ET). The firm says it’ll be “showcasing how the Galaxy ecosystem of connected devices is set to provide people with even greater possibilities for enriching their lifestyles.”

It’s a pretty cryptic passage from the Korean manufacturer, but we do get explicit confirmation of the smartwatch focus in the very next sentence.

“Samsung will also be unveiling its vision for the future of smartwatches at the event with new opportunities for both developers and users designed to deliver a new era of smartwatch experiences.”

The company is widely expected to reveal the Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch with Wear OS soon, so we’re expecting the wearable to debut at this event. The watch and its variants have also seemingly passed through the FCC, lending more weight to an imminent launch.

Samsung also says it’ll be talking about the “latest security enhancements and innovations” at the event. We’re guessing this is related to Knox and other software features, as evident by the Knox logo in the invite image above.
