OnePlus and Oppo further integrated their resources last week. Company co-founder Pete Lau announced that while OnePlus will operate independently of Oppo, the two companies will more closely collaborate on products and software updates.

This got us wondering whether OnePlus phones will also adopt Oppo’s Color OS globally, as they’ve done in China. Thankfully, OnePlus confirmed that it doesn’t have any such plans. At least for now. However, seeing how OnePlus and Oppo are even more joined at the hip now, we can’t completely rule out that Oxygen OS will take more and more cues from Color OS going forward. OnePlus could also always change its plans and Color OS could become the dedicated software for its phones everywhere.

Your Comments

Zen22: After my OnePlus 7 Pro, I thought I’d go for another OnePlus phone. Now they’ve proven they don’t care about their customers. They raised prices, removed features, slacked on software, and the OnePlus watch shows everything wrong with the company. Now OppoPlus is merging. I knew it was already Oppo. But it makes me more disappointed to see it. OnePlus is a brand that means nothing to me.

Arun Topez: Me too sadly. I really had high hopes for the 9 Series, and after all the updates it seems the phones are good now… BUT how the lack of support for their EXISTING customers for their 2-3 year supported devices is just not cool. They really tarnished the OnePlus brand. I get it, they’re a corporation and only care about money. But it’s just sad to see such a wonderful company for enthusiasts goes downhill like this. If they don’t change things by the 10 Series launch (which it doesn’t seem like that since they’re releasing even MORE variants), then I’m done with OnePlus.

C.J. Brown: Although I’m glad that consumers have the choice between OnePlus, or a OnePlus Nord, I get the impression that consumers will only expect 1 OS update + maybe 2 to 3 years of security patches. so OnePlus is no better than Motorola (which I prefer, because of stock Android OS – oh yeah Motorola also beat OnePlus to the Android OS 11 update by 3 months).

Kdavies: I use Oppo device’s and I’ve tried using a OnePlus device as well, Color OS just feels so much more well developed than Oxygen OS

KRv 09: I am done with OnePlus, planning to buy Asus Zenfone 8 which is what Oneplus was meant to be.

Artus_2021: Color OS no way! I am planning to buy Pixel as my next device, at least I will get timely OS updates!

Zed Jones: After my experience with the OnePlus 2 and its lack of support forcing me to eventually use Lineage OS, I would never recommend them let alone buy anything from them again, regardless of OS.

jackson ombati: If I need Color OS, I will simply buy an Oppo phone.

Avieshek: What’s left then? 😂 Like seriously, the body is already Oppo with all the technologies like Dash Charge is actually VOOC – what’s left to what’s the point of this question? Even Vivo would be better even though they fall under the same umbrella of BBK electronics and Oppo is a sister company but not an extension or daughter of Oppo like OnePlus.

5th Dimension: The OnePlus ship has sailed on never to return for me. Broken promises and not backing up their original philosophy. Bye, OnePlus.

Pedro Vecino Buday: Hell no. I had had an awful experience with Color OS and would like to have nothing to do with it in the foreseeable future. If they start using that for OnePlus devices, then that leaves me no choice but to find another brand with a better OS.
