- Leaked screenshots suggest Google is working on a new standalone health app.
- Google Health will reportedly help users gather and store medical records.
- The app is currently undergoing testing per the leak, but it’s unclear if it’ll see a broader launch in the future.
According to a new leak, Google is working on a new app that will purportedly help users gather and store medical records. The app, called Google Health, wants to give users a “unified view” of their health.
The leak comes from tipster Ishan Agarwal and 91Mobiles and consists of a duo of screenshots. Judging by these screens, Google Health at present will let users onboard their medical records from “doctor’s visits, labs, and more.” The app also houses tabs for contacts and sharing. Presumably, the latter will let users share specific details with close family and friends or medical professionals.
Notably, Google Health doesn’t seem to be a replacement for Google Fit, the company’s current health app. The two apps’ features seemingly don’t overlap at all. While it’s always possible that the apps could be merged, it makes sense if the two platforms work in unison. This could give users of both platforms a lengthy, holistic overview of their health status.
Nevertheless, despite the potential advantages, some users are likely on the fence about sharing their medical data with Google.
Didn’t Google do this all before?
Well, yes. The company shuttered its previous personal health records platform nearly a decade ago after launching it in 2008. Also named Health, the reason was largely attributed to scaling issues.
In 2018, Google relit its Health unit. As the pandemic continues unabated, it seems a good a time as any for Google to debut a new health records platform, too. The new app screenshots are seemingly among the first consumer-focused fruits of this latest effort.
91Mobiles, citing Agarwal, suggests that the app is still in its test phase, and there’s no indication that it’ll launch as a stable app. But what if Google made it official? Would you use it? Be sure to vote in our poll above.
